Summer Sermon Series A - Living Stones – 1 Peter
We turn to the New Testament letter of 1 Peter for our next sermon series called “Living Stones.” Peter was one of the first disciples called by Jesus, one of the four fishermen who left their nets and their boats to follow him. Peter became the spokesman for the group. He was enthusiastic, impetuous, dedicated, even cocky at times-but weak and failing on other occasions. Peter famously and shamefully denied Jesus three times. But our Lord Jesus restored Peter, saying, “When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22:32). And that is what Peter does in his first letter to “God’s elect”–first century Christians. By extension, Peter speaks also to us today—strengthening us as we follow Jesus.
